SoilMatrix Garden – Summer 2016

Soil Matrix Garden – July 17, 2016

Probably one of the most rewarding activities on the planet – Gardening.   Throughout the summer of 2016, AirTerra will be featuring the SoilMatrix Garden.  Every two weeks a new photo of the garden will be posted to chart its progress.  The soil for this garden was prepared with a 10% blend of SoilMatrix biochar (by volume) with 90% good garden soil from Eagle Lake.  Blending was accomplished using a ground tarp that was pulled from side to side until the two ingredients were blended evenly (easer to accomplish with two people pulling the tarp).  Items in the foreground were planted from seedlings grown in a small greenhouse.   Items in the rows further away were planted from seed.  For example, Karin is standing beside the peas planted from seedlings, which are now standing 6 feet tall.   The peas planted as seeds are to the left in the second row of plants and they are catching up quickly!

2016 Garden Show at Spruce Meadows

Calgary Horticultural Society Garden Show – Spruce Meadows – 2016

This past weekend (April 9-10), AirTerra sold biochar to about 100 avid gardeners who stopped by our booth. Two years ago in the same setting, AirTerra could only describe the benefits of biochar as our registration of the product was still in process with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). All that changed in December 2015 when we received our registration permitting us to sell this lifetime soil amendment product – the first company to do so in Canada.

AirTerra Exhibiting at the 2016 Calgary Garden Show

AirTerra has a booth at the 2016 Garden Show, April 9 and 10.  Find us in booth 023.   We plan on promoting biochar as a compost additive and soil-enhancing agent for the adventurous and experimental gardener.   We have plenty of our initial pure biochar product on hand for purchase.   This event is our second of the year.  The first was a gardening and sustainable living show in Red Deer — the March, 2016 IMG_2777Rethink Red Deer Eco Living Fair.  Karin is pictured here selling our product at this event.

AirTerra in Partnership with The Alberta Biochar Initiative (ABI) Now has CFIA Approval to Sell Biochar in Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has now approved AirTerra’s Biochar product for use as a soil enhancement agent. This gives AirTerra the ability to sell a biochar product in the Canadian market opening up an entirely new avenue for AirTerra’s growth as a biochar promotion, sales, and distribution company in Canada. AirTerra plans to have product in Canadian garden centres by the spring of 2016. This complements AirTerra’s current work to promote clean efficient cooking stoves that generate biochar as a soil enhancement agent in Kenya and Malawi. See the ABI press release here.
